Chimney - Day # 3

Let’s continue our journey. We went to the chimney as I thought it will be something cool for Calvin to look. It’s build during the World War 2.

First we off to the museum,

Then we went to the chimney

The Chimney with the height of 106' - 6" (32.5 meters) appears square shapped with an inner hollowstructure. Thousands of red bricks were used to construct the monument reflecting typical English architecture. More than 23,00 red bricks were used merely to construct the outer walls of the Chimney. Excavation works revealed that the Chimney's base comprised of at least 12 layers of bricks (approximately 1 metre) in the formation of steps. It sits firmly on a large tract of limestone rock containing rich kaolin or porcelain clay which provided the strong foundation.

This strong natural foundation has kept the base stable. This is amazing because even without the modern technology of today, the structure still remains sound. Two arches at the chimney base functions as a wind breaker to protect the tower from strong winds. Steel rods use in the construction of the structure prevents cracking and at the same time stabilize the Chimney's base. Meanwhile, the monuments summit is supported by metal sheets to strengthen the upper structure.

The ‘Chimney’ was long thought to be nothing more than a ventilation shaft. However, recent findings revealed that there were no traces of smokes or burning to suggest its use as a chimney as popularly believed. Careful digging has revealed at least 12 layers of bricks beneath the surface. The structure sits firmly on a large tract of limestone rock containing rich kaolin or porcelain clay, which provided the strong foundation.

The ‘Chimney’ is still very much a mystery until today. Various hypothesis has been put forward to its purpose. Some said it was an unfinished mansion. While others said it was a light house beaconing passing ships. In its heyday, a thriving settlement was built at the sea front area below the Chimney. It was then used as a bell tower to announce the arrival of ships to the residents below. It has become an intriguing riddle that fascinates locals and visitors alike.

Then, it became cam-whoring

Little Rascal

My little rascal is growing up fast. I remember the first time I hold her on my arm, I felt so tiny and love. And now, she all grew up and naughty. No matter what she does, I still love her to death. She always made me smiled and been keeping me company when I needed someone.

The other day, I caught her peeking on the window. Its sooooo damn cute, you know. It’s not her first time but I have a hard time taking that photo coz when every time I take out my camera. She got all excited and poses on the ground. So…. I have to sneak. I got this kids chair where I got at Target store when they had it on sale. And I put it by the window till I figure out where I wanna put it since I’m still staging my crib. And she love to sit on it as she think that’s her chair. Yeah….. It turned out to be hers now.

All she does is peek outside by the window and see what the people outside doing. And she love to growl on them. Of course, I always tell her NO but she will do the silent thingy. I don’t know how to say it in word but like throwing air as if she is barking. That’s her daily routine peeking by the window like a cat.

Cold Soba Noodle

I went to the Korean food court for the first time for dinner. I wanted to check it out and finally got the chance to do so. Not a big food court like most Asia country had but well enough for us to choose. Even though it’s not BIG but I have a hard time on what I want or try. Too much food I wanted to have. Greedy me!

In the end, I choose Cold Soba Noodle. The reason why I picked that one is because it’s colorful on the photo. It attracted me and I’m not hungry and not feeling of having any meat. Diet myself without wanting it. LOL! I love it so much. It does give me some idea to do it at home but I don’t know how to do the dressing for the salad. It tasted like a kimchi sauce added with some water. I’m just guessing, k.

Recommended: MUST TRY!

Ba Sian Mau Temple – Day # 3

This Temple is pretty new in the island and the biggest one of all. I did not take a lot of pictures as I kinda uncomfortable about it. I’m in the situation where I don’t know if this is respectful for the Buddhism culture. Yes, part of my family and I grew up in a Buddhist family but I don’t know much about it. You can say I’m a mess up kid. And part of my family is a catholic. So most my childhood, I’m trying to understand and decide which way I want to be. And I started to analysis families between those two.

I’m not here to judge but I want to decide the one I felt comfortable with. As you can see now, I decided to commit to Christianity. I feel more like me and I’m happy. I just have my ideal of family that I want. And of course, I still respect Buddhism. None of them teaching us bad and wanting us to be a better person.

Anyways, we went there to have a tour as everyone seem so proud about this temple. You have too coz it really impress about the architecture. I myself was so impressed about it. I heard from the local that they hired china workers to build the temple and everything was craved by HAND. HAND CRAVED! So it took a while for them to complete it. Not only that, they willing to paid so much money on it. This temple owned the “HELL” and the “HEAVEN”. Mean…. They have this underground and put idols and showing the people and feeling on how hell going to look like. Chinese believe there 18 stages of hell and depends what sins you made on earth and will determine which stage you belong too. Creepy I know. We did went in there and have a look. Man…… I hate it so much and it was dark and smoky. I remembered I was asking Calvin to go out quickly. Totally uncomfortable about it! What more they showing how they torture the human who sin on the wall. WTH!!!!

Forget about that place, and we should always look into heaven. How I wish I can be an angel flying around with no worries. Angel Jennifer! Ha ha ha ha……… *knock my head*

And we headed up to level 3 where they resent the heaven in the temple. I was pretty amazed how they build everything in gold. I though heaven was mostly white? Why gold? Hmmmm………. And the 2nd thing I realized is that, there dragons everywhere too. I don’t know much about it but I know there seven idols sitting on the table. Every one of them has a meaning which I don’t know too. Sorry guys! Like every one called me banana and yes I’m totally agree. I should have learned the Chinese culture than my mtv. But MTV is my life. Besides I did not even take any photos of them. But I definite will go back again and take photos of it when I feel more comfortable and find out if it’s okay to do so.

I did enjoy the heaven in the temple. It’s so windy that I don’t feel like leaving. I can just stand there for couple hours and enjoy the wind. Next time, I will show you guys the oldest temple on the island. Small but a lot of history!

I recommend this place as 4 stars. Why not 5? Coz I still don’t get the hell thingy.
