Barbeque Cook Off Weekend

Last weekend, I supposed to go to my friend’s house at Reno. But I can’t make it coz Calvin needed to fly off to Los Angeles on Monday. I don’t want Calvin to be in the rush and get tired for the trip. I knew he’s going to be very tired and busy in LA. So, I understand that.

So, we ended up planning to go to the Barbeque cook off and invited Ivy and her family. It was such a last minutes thing. When we reached there, it kinda not expected. It’s not that huge or a big thing as I thought. Maybe because, it’s was a 2nd year for this event. But we had a great time together. It’s all about a good company. We had a best barbeque ribs. Soft and tender. The meat just came off from the bone without any hard work.

Let’s the pictures tell it all.

Unexpected

Calvin left for 3 days now. And I’m feeling okay. Way better that before. Maybe because I knew it was just a short trip. He called me more that he usually did this time. And I’m appreciate what he did and we been chatting online at night for couples hours. It was fun. It’s like, back to where we used to be and falling in love once again. Of course, it’s a bit different now. Maybe we both got mature somehow.

I got a SURPRISED yesterday! A surprised from Calvin. I TOTALLY not expected anything from him. I got a flower shipped all the way from San Diego. I can’t believe it. I was so so happy about it. I just can’t explain how I feel when I first saw it. I was so speechless and he called me after I put the flowers together. Gosh, he always does that to me. He made me sad, mad and etc. But in the end, he won my heart back again. I hate him for doing that. It does drive me crazy.

Tomorrow is the day. I can’t wait for him to come back and i really missed his smell.

Home Made Kangkung Belacan (water-spinach)

Kangkung is a malay word which refer to water spinach. Belacan mean Shrimp Paste.

I decided to cook this dish is because, we always graving for this dish. It so good and Calvin love it a lot. There no point of ordering in the restaurant all the time when we can try other stuffs. That’s how I decided to made this dish. How can I not know how to cook it when I born in Malaysia, right. I hope the photos tell it all.

Here a little bit of the water spinach history.

Water-spinach (Ipomoea aquatics) is a leaf vegetable native to the tropics which can be encountered in two different varieties. One has a hollow stem and large heart-shaped leaves so that it grows and flourishes in water and spreads over the surface like water-weed. When buying this variety, look for firm stems with green leaves. The second type also needs plenty of water to help it grow, but grows on land rather than in the water. The leaves are darker and thinner. As vegetables, there is hardly anything to choose between the two varieties. Both have a high vitamin C content and a slightly laxative effect. The pretty, bell-shaped white, pink, or red flowers are rarely seen even in the plant’s natural environment. Water spinach is related to the sweet potato and to morning glory.

It us not advisable to store water spinach for any length of time, as the leaves will turn yellow within a few days, and the stems will lose their firmness. As with most other leaf vegetables, water spinach shrinks when cooked and a large bunch of fresh leaves will lose two-thirds of its bulk.

Before cooking, water spinach must be carefully washed and cleaned and the tough tips of the stalks trimmed away. The leaves are separated from the thick stalks, since they do not take the same amount of time to cook. The mild flavor is similar to that of spinach as eaten in the West. Water spinach is blanched and added to salads and soups. It is particularly popular when stir-fried with a strongly-flavored paste of dried chili peppers and dried shrimp.

Emotionally Sick

Calvin is leaving to Los Angeles soon. I did not cry or tears but I know deep inside my heart, I just have the loneliness. I knew I have to adjust my conform zone. It’s not like Calvin out of trip for the first time. But every times lead me to sadness of loneliness. The dislike of being by myself and no one to turn too made me sad. The dislike of flashing back that I used to live before made me even sadder. But it’s all good. I’ll have some space for myself and do what I suppose to be done for a very long time.

Busy will be my priorities now. I’m thinking what I want to do at home besides sleeping and do nothing. Emmmm……….??? What should I have for my dinner??? Instant noodles will be my first or maybe just a frozen stuff. Easy and fast. To be honest, I HATE eating alone. It’s so pathetic eating by your self.

I’m so emotionally sick. I will eagerly on the phone waiting for him to call. I’m counting the days like I usually did. *sob sob*!

Kite Festival

What do we know about kite? Kite is a flying tethered object that depends upon tension of a tethering system. The necessary lift that makes the kite fly is generated when air (or in some cases water) flows over and under the kite’s wing, producing low pressure above the wing and high pressure below it. This deflection also generates horizontal drag along the direction of the wind. The resultant force vector from the lift and drag force components is opposed by the tension of the one or more lines or tethers. The anchor point if the kite line may be static or moving (e.g., the towing of a kite by a running person, boat or vehicle)

We decided to go to the kite festival to learn some tricks. We were intended to get a big one but dang…. It’s pricey. We not sure if we going to play with it all the time. Same as the Wii. It been always sitting on the tv stand and do nothing. Anyhow, we went there at noon time but parking way full. We called each other to see where we are. We wanted to get a close parking and it’s easier for us. And we lucky, we get to parked close to each other. What we do is we took a bus from the downtown to the destination. The driver didn’t accept our money as it was a last stop before going to the Kite’s location. LUCKY! It was my first bus ride in the bay area. Pathetic but it’s true. Weather was great, it was cloudy and windy and I love it. To bad, I got a tan from it and I hate it after that.

It was so spectacular! When u on the spot…………and u look up to the sky. It was so colorful.

Cal and I was so hungry and we can’t wait to get some food. He He He………. We had corndogs and garlic fries with shrimps. YUM O !!! Sat on the ground while eating and watched the kites in the sky. How romantic is that. LOL!!! And the 2nd thing that can’t take away my eyes was those puppies. OMG……. Cute! Photos below showed where I seated.

And us again!

Cheers!
